Why I set goals instead of resolutions

Goals vs. Resolutions: A New Approach

As the new year begins,  many of us consider making changes in our lives. While New Year's resolutions have been a popular tradition, I have found in the last few years that setting goals offers a more effective path to success.

Bringing Clarity and Focus to Our Lives

Goals can help us bring clarity and focus into our lives. As a mother who has a 5 year old boy with the attention span of a squirrel, focus is something we talk about a lot in my household. Resolutions can feel overwhelming. Goals can be measured and if you add actionable steps on how to attain the goal, then you are much more likely to reach it.

The Power of Measurable Goals

Motivation, Purpose, and Accountability

I am sure you have heard the terms "Rome wasn't built in a day" and "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time." Those sayings are relevant for a reason, nothing remarkable can be attained overnight. Goals attained over hard work, time and perseverance are so much sweeter! Goals bring motivation and purpose. Sharing them with others can be exciting as well as helping you stay accountable. Resolutions often fall to the wayside come February, maybe March if you are really ambitious.

This year I am going to write a future letter to myself congratulating myself on the goals I accomplished. I will store it with the holiday directions so that when next December rolls around I can read the letter to myself and see how far I've come.

What ideas do you have on how you can create success for yourself next year. It's worth it to the take the time and write it out. Your future self will thank you.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy New Year!
